Research and Rational Use of Drugs – (M.Sc.)

The speed with which new medicines are introduced onto the market is well known. Research into biomedicine and pharmacy provides the foundations of this progress, giving rise to this Masters which offers scientific training in the field of medicine in order to increase the critical mass of researchers, both within the university itself and in public and private institutes. Many factors are involved in the development of new drugs, sometimes resulting in a media-biased communication of information.

The Masters programme therefore also aims, with the support of experts from various healthcare organisations, to provide future healthcare professionals with the ability to make judicious selection and rational use of medicine in healthcare practice. Finally, the Masters provides education on the rational use of medication to graduates and professionals from non-health science related spheres who wish to specialise in the field of medicine.

The Masters will train students in the following areas:

* Biomedical information
* ICT tools and statistics in biomedicine
* Preclinical and clinical research methodology for developing new drugs
* Research into the rational use of medicine in healthcare practice
* Ethical and legal aspects of medicine

The Masters is organised by the Department of Pharmacology and Technical Pharmaceutics. The Departments of Social Psychology and Applied Economics will also participate in the programme, which is structured as follows:

* Bridging modules, compulsory for students without the required previous education (30 credits)
* Core module, compulsory for all students (15 credits)
* Elective modules, following four different pathways (30 credits per pathway)
* Masters final project (15 credits)
